Sponge Filter

I was looking at getting a sponge filter to move in between tanks and maybe help the nitrogen cycle move from one tank to another.

I have seen this sponge filter in a lot of places:

I believe I just need to hook the air up to this for it to run. Has anyone dealt with this one? Is it a POS?

My lfs runs them. They can be adjusted above water level for a waterfall effect. It's not that powerful but a must for fry tanks needing plenty of oxygen.:)

i am thinking about getting a sponge filter to provide additional filtration on a large cichlid tank. i have never used one and my question is how big of an air pump is necessary. lets just say i am using it in a 150 gal tank.

I've never seen something like that would be big enough to support the whole 150 gallons. That filter is more suited to tanks smaller than 30 gallons.

I was thinking about using this to move bacteria from one tank to another.
