Those substrate plants in the video are Hemianthus, which will do best with (which is to say, may likely need) CO2 and that means higher light and other nutrients. This wuld equate with the "advanced" method advocated in the video.
You can achieve similar effects with different plants, but here we come to another issue. Arowana will attain 3 feet and may get to 4 feet, requiring a tank that should be three times that length. Some actually say an indoor pond is required. The cost of a high-tech method for such a space is considerable. And as arowana are very skittish fish, they should be in a fairly dim-lit tank/pond which is not going to allow for much lower plant growth.
