need some advice on a rescuded pleco
so yesterday after a long time nabore moved away he left 2 fish in his out door pond a large koi witch i re-homed to my best friends pond but he said he would not take the pleco that was in the pond as well so brought it home and put it in my 20 gallon tank for now it is probably 7 it is a sailfin pleco i believe and it is in a tank with my 10 platys attached is a pictures of it sorry not the best quality
as i have never really kept plecos my questions are as fallowed
1.) how much space dose it need tank wise
2.) why are my platys kinda of avoiding it
3.) is there any hiding places it will need
4.) should i feed it any thing extra
thank you in advance for your help
I would suggest rehoming it ASAP. at 7 inches it is much to large for your 20 gallon to handle it's waste alone. The take up more bioload then many fish twice their size.
Oh, and the pleco you have is a Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps
Unfortunately rehoming a large pleco is not easy. I would suggest putting up a craigslist ad looking for someone in your area, or sometimes independent local fish store may take him as long as you are not looking to get anything for him.
