Overfeeding or sick danios?

I have some zebra danios mixed in with some platies, they are all happy tank mates. The danios have only been in there for about a month and ive noticed that the females look like they have bent spines they have gotten extremely fat in the last week or so which i presumed was possibly them getting ready to lay eggs (or spawn them whatever) but there spines have started to look almost bent. After doing some research apparently its due to over feeding. I find that the danios are so greedy so I feed a mixture of flakes and pellets so that everyone is getting enough food. It does only seem to be the females not the males can anyone help with this as I dont want to be over feeding them !

timing is everything -if the fish cannot eat the food you feed them in 10min then it is too much and only once daily

Fish should always appear hungry, so resist the temptation to overfeed. Upper fish (eating floating flake/pellet) should finish what you feed them in a minute or less. If they are still eating after that, they are being overfed. Substrate fish are a bit different, they naturally sit and nibble on sinking foods.

Missing a day, even alternate day feedings, will not hurt mature healthy fish. Fry need more frequent feedings, but not mature fish.

I'm not aware of the connection with the curved spine and overfeeding, so can't say this is the problem. But feeding less won't hurt nonetheless.

And, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.:-D

It seems to have improved in the last week the females are now not as fat so im guessing they where just like that because they where ready to lay eggs which they have eaten! I already have platy fry to look after just now so I just left there eggs there may be a few in the plants etc. Thanks for the advice
