Coral damage in the Gulf of Mexico
Found this article, shows the damage caused to fragile coral reefs in the Gulf of Mexico as a result of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
sad but this isnt the only thing killing our reefs all aroud the world. shame it took us this long to wise up. thanks for posting the article though.
I lived in the South Pacific about 10 years ago and dived and snorkeled on reefs regularly.
A family friend is a local dive master and some of the reefs, we used to go to have almost been reduced to rubble, caused by propeller hits from boats going to reefs at low tide..and local fish practices.
This is a developing country where I lived and as such, the locals still spear fished and also it was not unknown for sticks of dynamite to be used.
Such a shame that we are seeing now, may not be there for our children's children in only a short space of time.
and it doesnt end there, siltation from dredging, climate change, over fishing, coral poaching, pollution, and im sure others.
Slowly turning the oceans into a wasteland when we know so little about them. Scary that we know more about the other planets in our solar system, than we do about the deep oceans.
Priorities got mixed up somewhere.
