Help! Fish Cant Eat food!
hi my fishes are not swimming up to the top to eat their food. its been like that for a while so i leave my filter on so the food goes down and they see it. But most of the time when i try to feed them they dont see the food and it just falls in the gravel. is there a method in feeding my cardinals??

-13 Cardinal tetras
-1 emperor tetra
- water levels are good.

i will be interested to hear other members thoughts on this.
whenever i kept neons or cardinals they never ate their food
from the tank surface, they either ate while the food was sinking
or ate from whichever lower surface the food settled on.

My tetras never notice the food while at the top. But once the other fish notice it and start eating the tetras go crazy mad with speed and start gathering. My water has a swift little current though so my food doesn't settle that fast.

They don't really like eating off the top.

even if i buy sinking pellets the fish might not see it.

They may notice it more than the flakes. Thats pretty much the only suggestion I have... Do they even respond to when your hand goes near the tank? Like following it to the top? I still say try the sinking pellets but other then that I have no idea :dunno: Sorry, good luck.

good point Little-Fizz :) i'd like to know that too.
i was just thinking the same thing, while reading the other
i am thinking about trying some Daphania,if you use live daphnia
then do not add the water they are in to your tank,(it's gross)
they will be free swimming and should be eaten.
please let us know if you try it. :)

i have 7 mixed danios and 4 neon tetras, and i feed my fish just plain flakes, tetra color and freeze dried brine shrimp. they usually go after the tetra color, but when i put the brine shrimp in, they go right after it, and they sometimes even try to push the danios away, so try different types of food, and switch it up. have you tried live food? like gordans formula or egg yolk?

Well the good news is that they have to be eating or they would be dead by now. However, I was thinking the same thing when I noticed my cardinals not going to the top for food. I have 5 neon tetras in my 55 gallon with other community fish. The other fish seemed to eat all the food before the cardinals had a chance to. I went to my LFS and bought some sinking flake granules. They start sinking as soon as you put it in the tank. I put regular food in for the other fish and add the granules as well. I like the granules because it allows the cardinals to eat at the middle of the tank where they are comfortable while the other fish eat at the top.
