Post-tank jumping ropefish? So I recently bought a ropefish at my LFS... soon after I got her home she managed to jump the tank. I got her back in just fine, but two days later (today) I've noticed she does a lot of just hanging around. On closer inspection her eyes seem sort of cloudy and her little nostrils look like they got smushed! Is it possible that she damaged them in the fall? What can I do for her? I'm not sure if her eyes are definitely popeye or if it's just a reaction to being on the floor. Any advice would be much appreciated. |
I have a polypterus(cousin) and he has jummped out oncw but he is not damaged. but a ropefish is a bit slimmer so it is propobly hurt put in in a waiting tank to see if she heals |
i have over 20 ropes fish so i have had plenty of escapees. and also work with them on daily basis. But ive never come across one that has damaged itself jumping out(allthough obviouslly is possible). Its far more likely that the jump stressed the fish out which caused problems. |
If this happened several months ago, I wouldn't be worried about it now. More likely a water-conditions issue. |
Went to a LFS today and the worker there was telling me how often they come in to find a ropefish dried up in the floor. They use sponge filters exclusively, so I don't understand why they can't put a wire mesh on top. You'd think the cost would eventually add up in losses. Apparently it's pretty commonplace. Poor lil fishies. |
