cichlids and barbs?

Just wondering if any cichlids were compatible with barbs? I currently have 2 tiger barbs and 1 red fin shark that were transferred from my 20g hex to my new 46g bow..............I went to a "mom and pop" aquarium shop today and the kid said that I couldnt put cichlids with them...........any advice?...........

He could be referring to the Rift Valley cichlids which, in fact, do not make suitable tankmates. Keyhole cichlids and bolivian rams would be your best bet.
