4 dead fish :(
two weeks ago we went to the pets store to buy more fish we currently had 6 glo-fish (danios) and went and got 2 yellow mollies and two neon tetras the black neon tetra was the first to go then the orange and blue neon then the first and second yellow mollies they just started slowing down and died all the glo-fisb are alive except one that jumped out of the tank i hope someone has an idea of what went wrong
Size of the aquarium, and how long has it been running?
First guess is going to be that the tank was not cycled.
We did do the cycle
And its a 3 gallon
Massively overstocked, I'm afraid you can not keep any of those fish in a 3 gallon long term, and all together ... well, you already know.
A 3 gallon is only suited for invertabrates (snails and shrimp). It's possible to keep a Betta alive, but still a bit small for them. A true stable cycle capable of supporting fish is also excessively difficult in anything smaller than 5 gallons.
6 danios should be housed in a minimum of a 20 gallon long aquarium. Click on the shaded Zebra Danio name to read over their profile and care requirements.
yea i tought it was too small but the pet shop lady said ot was fine if we had 10 in there walk
as long as they were small
Welcome to the forum and the hobby. I'm sorry you got bad advice from the pet store. They often don't care about the health of your fish; they just want to make a sale. Geomancer and Gwen are correct. You need a larger tank. You can save the 3 gal and use it for a betta, tho. But you will need more water changes than a normal tank.
3 gallons, what a joke.
hello and welcome to the forum and the hobby. Unfortunately you learned the hard way that many times w are unable to trust the advice given at the pet store. There are many great resources here such as the fish profiles that will help you in understanding the requirements of different fish, the profiles can be found at the top of the page second tab from the left. Also there are many members here who will glady help you with any questions or issues you may have.
