Cycling a new "baby tank"
Well my guppys had more babys today(4 more) added to the already 3. Anyways My 25 G is already fully stocked, so I went out and bought a new 10 G and all the add on's. Right now the fry are in a "breeding net in my main tank. The 10 G is all set up, my question is how's the fasted way to cycle this tank the fishless way? My 25 G is fully cycled, so can I add some water from it to speed things up? Or should I add gravel from the established tank? Any help would be appreciated.
Not much benefit to using water from the established tank, for very little bacteria is free floating but rather it clings to hard surfaces such as wood ,rocks, gravel, and on the filter material.
Would still monitor the fish/water in the ten gal after placing fish in it to ensure that ammonia /nitrites don't rise to toxic levels.
Perhaps perform small every other day water changes in the ten gal for a few day's just to be safe.
Doesn't take much to change two gallons from ten gallon tank and it won't affect the biological process but will benefit the fish.
