Uh oh, I bought a Leporinus just over a week ago, not knowing at the time that it is notorious for being a fin-nipper and can eventually kill everything in an aquarium :o . tonight I see that two of the fish in my 46 gallon have nipped fins :x . Question: can I put this small leporinus in with my small African cichilds (which I've only had a week). Size issues aside (yes I know they all will get big); I don't know what else to do.
is there no chance of you taking it back to
the fish shop.?
I'd return them asap as Lainey said.:)
IMO, I wouldn't mix the leporinus in a small tank with the African cichlids.
Too late. I put him in with the Africans. I know it can't stay that way, but the lfs I got him from (the one I work at) won't take him back because all the tanks are one one system and they, of course, are afraid of disease. At first, the cichlids were taking turns picking on the leporinus, but he stood his ground and picked right back. Now (a few hours later) he is swimming with them. On Sunday I'll donate him to a different store. :(
Leporinus are nice fish & i've seen them kept at my lfs together with large africans. Why not keep him there if he's not creating any real drama ?
