Mixing Rainbow Fish
Hi, I currently have 8 red platies and 8 zebra danios in a 55 gallon tank.
My LFS is getting an order of rainbow fish this week and I would like to stock a small school.
They expect to get some Australian (Murray River), Red Irian, Turquoise (Lake Kutubu), and Boseman's rainbow fish.
I was wondering if I could get 2 each of 3 different types, or 3 each of 2 different types, or if I have to get a school of 5 or 6 of all the same?
A school of 6 Boesman rainbow fish would be perfect for ypur 55. I would suggest getting a school of the same species, because I know that for most tetras the minimum number is 6, but that doesn't mean 3 cardinal tetras and 3 rummynose tetras, but given the size of the fish you have now and the size of your tank, you could probobly do 6 Boesman rainbows and 6 of another smaller rainbowfish and be finished. P.S-It wouldn't be a bad idea to maybe put a twig cat in there if you have or develop an algae problem.
I'll check out the twig cats. I was originally thinking a Bristlenose Pleco to control algae.
