Two filters at once? ok so im getting a new marineland penguin bio-wheel 350 filter and was wondering if would be ok to run my other filter at the same time(top fin 60 gallon filter) to keep up with my "overstocked" tank or will it stress out my fish too much? Its a 55 gallon tank (all the fish are still babies) with two oscars, 1JD,two black convicts, 1 pleco and an electric blue crawfish. |
absolutely no problem running them side by side. In fact it will be better for your water as well. Just one thing to note, the electric blue clawfish will NOT survive once the oscars get large. They will see it as a meal. |
Running more than one filter is almost neccesary when keeping cichlids. You will need the extra filtration. I run 3 filters on my tank. Another plus to that is if one decided to stop working you always have another one working on the tank. |
kk thanks guys and I plan on possibly getting a tank for my betta and zebra danio so I might just put him in there but right now he just lives in his rock cave thing:)In the future though is it best to have another filter standing by in storage just in case, cause if so I'll just get another marineland. |
DO NOT put the betta and Zebra Danio in with the cichlids. Regardless that the cichlids are still young they will get either stress the betta or be stressed by him. Agree that you must overfilter cichlids. I have an fx5 and Rena XP3 on my 75g cichlid tank. FX5, 2 Rena XP4 and a spare Penguin 350 running as well. |
no no I will get like a 10 gallon my betta and danio are in a 2 gallon bowl and i want to give them a better home. so ill put the crawfish with them for a lil with a tank divider. |
Re-reading it that is what I thought was the plan.. sounds good but look for a tank aorund 2 ft (24") long for the zebra danio, they are active swimmers and need the tank room. |
