The best is the malaysian drift wood. Stay away from mopani wood. It is very prone to fungus, and takes forever and a day to get tannins out (though tannins are good) and your tank will get very dark with tannins, like a dark tea. You may need to buy malaysian drift wood on-line. Petsmart and PetCo don't have it where I live, but some do. Check with your local fish stores. You can use hard wood such as oak, if you can find a nice piece where you live. You need to make sure it's not been treated with chemicals etc. Some people do find wood in rivers etc., that can be used. Boil them well, and watch for signs of decay over time, as the decaying process will cause high nitrates. Stay away from any wood that has sap, as this could be toxic to fish. Gwen |
Is Manzanita Driftwood same as malaysian drift wood? |

No, but that is also a nice looking hard wood for a fish tank. Gwen |
