Eheim Pro3 #2075 - too much for a 55 gallon? I have a chance to pick up a used Eheim Pro3 Canister Filter System, model #2075 for a good price. Would that be too much flow (using a 36" spraybar set-up) for a planted 55 gallon tank w/angelfish? Thanks, I want it, but worried it's just too much filter! |
I would fear it would be too much current being it is rated up to a 160 gallon tank. I not sure that a 36" spraybar would defuse the current enough and if it does how much stress would that cause the motor? |
I have an ehiem 2217 on my 55 gallon. It has the 12 inch spraybar, not the 36. I found that the push from it was a lot of current so to solve the problem I drilled extra holes in the spraybar. If you buy the filter and find the current is too strong you could just drill some extra holes. |

Some of the newer models have volume controls now, something my Eheim from 1996 do not. |
Yea, I'm worried about the "through-flow". That pump has more than 6x the "advertised" flow of my 2215 canister! Even with two intakes, it's still a lot of movement in the tank. I'm not certain I can restrict the outflow enough to please the fishes... Diffusing the outflow is not an issue, an acrylic tube, my drill press, and voila, a tank-long spray-bar. Unfortunately, as Byron said, doesn't really change the total volume of water through the filter of 330 gallons/hour (that's 6.5 tank turnovers per hour). My current Eheim 2215 is rated at 164/hour (3x turnover, but I think that's an over-estimate of flow). |

Turn out this discussion's a moot point, the filter's too large to fit under my tank stand anyway, with a CO2 tank and a 20L tank already there... Thanks for the feedback in any case, it's much appreciated! |
