Snails in my tank
 
Hi Everyone,

I was out for 5 days and when I came back home I realized that my tank contained a snail. I am not sure what type of snail it was (it had a brownish, blackish shell). Is there anything I can do to make sure that the snail and whatever eggs there might be will not haunt me? That is, how do I get rid of it? I don't want to tear down my entire tank. Oh, I have two live plants. I'm not sure what their names are.

Any pictures of the snail? It sounds like common pond snail to me. It could have hitched a ride on your plants. You can remove any snails you see.

Hi there Lupin,

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry... but I couldn't get a picture of the snail. I believe it did hitch a ride on my plant. I found a solution on how to clean your live plant at home. I also removed the snail so I'm hoping this did the trick. I'm worried about my filter though. I can't go to the store to buy a new filter cartridge and so on to treat the filter in case some snail eggs got to it. I did do some water changes to clean my tank just in case.

Don't pressure yourself too much just to remove the snails.:) I saw only one snail a few weeks back. Seeing as I am already annoyed by their presence before, I removed it and I've not seen any others since then. It came from an Elodea densa from my pond riddled with snails.

I would simply observe the tank well for more possible hitchhikers.:)

Ah! Indeed! 8) I did check my tank like 20x's to see if there were any more snails. I'm sorry if I sounded like my tank was ruined. Lol. I am just not fond of any snails. I'll keep my eye on those little suckers. :P Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.
