HELP! Filling tank
I have begun filling my 55 gallon tank.
I can tell by just the first few inches, that the water is heavily stained the color of the rocks I'm using.
Is this normal and will clear up when full and/or when I filter start running????
Or should I back out and place the rocks in after I fill?????
I;m using LFS "Premium Freshwater Substrate.
Thanks in advance for prompt advice!!!
im not quite sure what to tell you, but maybe you should rinse all of the rocks... as crazy as that may seem, it might just be crazy enough to work! :D
Welcome to Fishforum.com.
Did you give the rocks and substrate a good wash? If not, you can wash the rocks again. Use only salt and lukewarm water but not boiling water or they might explode causing damage to you and your properties.
In the meantime, you can temporarily use the activated carbon if you hate the colored looks of the water.
Ok, I think we can help but can you explain a little more what the Premium Freshwater Substrate is exactly if you can. If it is regular gravel then the cloudiness will go away. If it is not and has a lot of other "things" in it then we need to know more about it to help you the best.
Thanks for all who replied.
I got it taken care of. The substrate I purchased was colored. I did rinse, but not well enough.
I emptied the cloudy water and filled again with the hose in a tupperware bowl...as to not be jetting through the rocks like the first time.
This technique let me fill clearly without having to rinse again.
Thanks for the responses....great site....lots of info for a newb like myself.
Hope to post some pics of my tanks soon.
