Someone give me some info on these guys. I'm not having luck and I think I'm in love!!!
I have no experiance with this fish, and i doubt i ever will
be in luck,as they need a low PH from what
this little fish is a dwarf cichlid from south America,
male grows to about 3 inches, female 2 inches.
the male should have elongated fins or tails.
looks lovely. :)
i'm extreamly jealous :)
What species are these apistos? Did you test your lfs' water and compare to yours? Use drip acclimation if the pH difference is far too wide. How long has your tank been established?
Apistogrammas can be somewhat demanding, depending upon the species. They prefer softer water, although mine are in neutral water, 7.0 pH.
I posted a sticky in "Freshwater Setups, .....ect", you can check for more info there.
Have fun, they are a very cool fish.
I'm going to do some more homework tonight to see what I can find out. I'm actually transferring my 30 gallon water/filter/some substrate to my new 55 gallon. I've had livebearers for the past 2 years and have gotten bored with them. I love cichlids and in my search for a cichlid that will be friends with my 6 inch pleco, I stumbled on these guys. I'm not looking to buy them for another 2 weeks or so. I'm going to transfer tank and only keep plecy who I've learned can live through anything, for awhile in the new tank. I likethe rams but like I said, these guys struck me right away.
So far these are the ones I'm really liking http://folk.ntnu.no/foksen/Apistogramma/ABitaeniata.htm
Now, that's a nice apisto.
Thank you all
Thats it! I checked them out and did some homework and now have a list of Apisto's that will be fine together and be friends with Plecky. South American Dwarf's are the way I'm going. Now I just have to send my oder back to Dr Foster's since I ordered stuff to set up the tank for Malwai Cichlids. Oh well, these little guys are so cute and they will not bother my son's fav fishy!! Thanks for all your help and I'll get pics up in a few week once everything is set!! I'm so excited now!!!!!!
look forward to the pictures.
