Platy still has eyes in her belly after 2 days of no babies born????
Ok so here is my problem well more of a question because I am totally baffled with this one. MY Dalmation Molly had her babies on the 21st of Feb. Which was this past Tuesday. She has gone back to being skinny and looks like she did before pregnant. Well my Mickey Mouse Platy had her babies last Thursday the 23rd. She would have one or 2 then none for an hour and then another one. My Silver Molly was attacking her like crazy. Not nipping her fins full on getting her on her sides. Well I have one of those big breeder nets which after buying I found out that it can stress the fish out so I just put it up and was saving it b/c it says you can use it for putting injured fish in to give them time away from the other fish. Well anyway since she was being attacked so much I stuck it in the tank and let her swim into it and once she was in it hooked it to the side so not to stress her out by chasing and catching her with the net and putting her in it. She was completely fine she actually seemed happy to be in it and away from my molly.
Well she had 3 more babies and after about 4 hours I let her out and left the babies in there. She was fine and my molly was no longer attacking her. Well now as of last night I noticed her gravid spot has gotten darker and I can see a bunch of eyes in her belly. I didn't see them before when she had the other just the gravid spot. But now there are all these black dots everywhere and I was watching her and saw them move. Well I think I did it is kind of hard to tell with her swimming around.
Any how my question is is it possible that she is still pregnant and for some reason had some early or possibly the eggs happened to of gotten fertilized at a different time? I know it can happen with humans so wondering if possible that is what happened to her or somehow she just stopped giving birth and is going to start again? I don't know what to do. I have my other tanks set up and almost cycled the levels are maybe 2 days away from being ok based on my last tank I set up. I had planned on moving the platy's to one tank and the 2 molly's to another and then when the 2 baby molly's are grown add them in with the other 2 in my 20G tank and then add the 3 platy's in the other 20G tank with my 3 platy's I have now that are going into that tank. I want to leave the tetras in the 10G tank with the albino cory catfish. But I don't want to move her if that is even possible that she is going to give birth again b/c I don't want to stress her out. Should I maybe just move the tetras and cory's to the 20G and the molly's to the other 20G and leave the platy's in the tank they are in now until I find out if she is going to have more? Or is this even possible that she may be going to have more? She is still fat and I think my other platy probably gave birth at night b/c she seems skinnier now. I never saw a gravid spot on her though so I am not sure if she did or not. OK so I know I go back and forth on topic here but basically is this even possible that she is going to have more? I read molly's are usually done in an hour and mine was but only had 15 total 2 survived. But my platy was going an hour in between some of them and she had some deformed ones that were born dead. I need help!!! If it is possible please help with suggestions on what to do about moving them all around. It is not really a big thing to move my tetras and cory's to the other tank and then move them back other than stress so I would wait a week or two before I did move them back if it came to that to not stress them to much too close together. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Again sorry this is long but I am a talkative person and can't help it..lol. Thanks in advance!!! :-?
Ok, with livebearers they will give birth to a first lot of babies, it can vary in amounts. In a month or two the livebearer will give birth to a second lot of babies. Because livebearers are so easy to breed you will find that your fish will keep having babies at regular intervals.
Thank you for replying. I was wondering b/c she had just had her babies and then all of the sudden after a few days it looks like she is going to pop again and I can see eyes. I thought maybe she wasn't done. Sounds to me like I have time though. Thanks again. I am going to move her and my 2 other mickey platy's to my 29G tank when it is done cycling. :-)
good and what did you do with the babies did you seperate them from the mother and other platys
Yes for right now I have the 5 babies (2dalmation mollies and 3 mickey mouse platies) in a 8X8 net breeder. I checked my levels on my 20G tanks and they are ready to go but I am not going to move them tonight I will do it in the morning. Not sure what I want to put in my 29G one yet. But as soon as I move the others tomorrow I am going to let the babies have the 10g tank for themselves!!! :-D
IME, stress and illness can influence fry development. In most cases they will drop premature eggs along with the good ones. These premature eggs will most likely die.
In your case it seems she can postpone dropping premature eggs which of course is good. Place her in that breeding trap and see what happens in the next few days. They usually give monthly birth to 15 - 30 fry on average.
Thank you I will do that. One of my fry all of the sudden has been acting weird. He stays at the bottom and now instead of looking dalmation he seems to be all black. It's weird!
