platy breeding
 

I just singed up for this fourm today and from looking it over seems very imformative and helpful. I have been looking into starting a 20gal platy breeding tank. probably 2 males and 3 or 4 females. My idea was to try to make some new intersting color variations and was wondering if just getting a mix of different colors would be the best course of action or some other method?

first, you have too many males. you need about 3 females to each male. I would go with 4 to 1. the more females to 1 male the better. once they get pregnant, the males will keep pestering them. with mine the females killed the males, after they got pregnant. no sweat,, will have more males later.

dang ive never heard of them killing eachother but yeah i decided to go with a 3 to 1 ratio after hearing that. thanxs for the input
