Newborn Platy Fry Weak And Small One of my platy's gave birth to 16 small surviving fry (20 all together) and they are weak barely swimming around. Will some of them survive? My other platy gave birth to 6 large healthy fry. |
how old are they? Fry are born with a yolk sac that they live off of for a while. |

I hope you have places for them to hide. Also I have only had 1 pllaty fry with an egg sac, and it is doing fine. I have platys and mollies and when the fry are born it's the juvenile ( half grown) ones that do the most damage.(cannibalism). Have left off the lights for a few days, and that seems to help. |

They are in breeding traps. One has the older fry in them while the other has the younger |
I should have said " out of all of the platy fry" since I have about 20, so far. The older ones have settled down and are leaving the smaller ones alone, now. When the mollies first had fry, I called the wife in to see them, and POW, the platy adolescents were gobbling them up! What a shock! She was disgusted, and that's when I turned out the light. It was more to not see the carnage, but I think it may have let things settle down. I have never separated any fry, and out of about 50-60, have lost maybe 10. Hope this helps! |
