| ladayen | 02-16-2012 12:42 PM | Watched Tiger Barbs spawn, but.... We made a trip to a city about 3 hours away on the weekend and picked up a bunch of cheap fish. Among them 10 tiger barbs. We put them in a 20g tank for now. Was watching them yesterday and noticed some odd behavior, at first I thought it might be a sign of ich. On closer observation I realized one was shaking and another was shimmying. This reminded me of the spawning behavior of my mbuna which I'm quite familiar with. Sure enough one was laying eggs and the other was fertilizing them. The wierd thing was it's a completly bare tank aside from the gravel. Of course there were a handful of other barbs around just waiting. The funny part was they would wait for the female to lay the eggs.. wouldn't touch them yet. Once the male had done his thing they would dive in and start eating the eggs. I guess males add flavor? |
