help with 29 gallon tank
setting up a FOWLR tank, probably with decent colorful corals and maybe 2 or 3 fish tops.
so the problem is I was looking at lighting... and i found these which are cheaper than the original ones I was going to get
Aquarium Lighting & LED Lights: Marineland LED Double Bright Lighting System
or do I go with a dual T5 setup. Im guessing led would be a money saver
Aquarium Lighting T5 Fluorescent Light Fixture: AquaticLife T5 HO Dual Lamp Light Fixtures
Another question, Ive read you need 10x the water for circulation in a reef tank...
so the marineland maxi jet 600s say 160 GPH in powerhead mode and 750 in circulation...
what mode do you want them in and do I need 2 or is one enough " flow "
thanks in advance everyone.
Sorry I guess fowlr is fish with live rock....
i am going for a reef tank with few fish.
Go with the t-5 set up, I don't think the leds produce enough light for corals. Also the t-5 set up allows for more lights to be added if you want/need more light for sps corals.
You would need the Reef capable LED setup, not the Double Brites. Or a 4 blulb T-5 set up, if your going to use Actinics, if you are not going to use Actinics, then you only need a 2 lamp unit.
Reef tanks need 20x the water turn over rate in them. FOWLR only need 10x the rate. You would use a Max Jet in powerhead mode, so thats not a real good one to get. Try looking at the Hydor Koralia for a powerhead, much better water movement. So, just for an idea here, a 100 gallon FOWLR would need 1000gph powerhead or 2 500gph powerheads. A Reef 100g tank would start out at 2000gph and go up from there.
