michelle needs help with 10 gallon tank!
would like to change from goldfish to neon tetras do i have to clean the tank? i have a 10 gallon tank my filter is a whisper what type of food should i use? i feed my fish gold fish flakes can someone guide me through this i am a beginner would like to up grade my tank thanks.
Wouldn't hurt to some extent. Dont overdo it though or your going to have to re cycle your tank. Do a 50% water change, vacuum the surface of the substrate (gravel or sand) dont actually start digging around in the substrate though. Then rinse your filter media in the dirty tank water. Check the water parameters after, but before adding new fish.
thank you how soon do i put the tetras in and what do i feed them,i have goldfish food, can my goldfish stay in the tank as well?
Short answer, no. A 10g is not sufficient even for one goldfish, much less more. Depending upon the species, goldfish can get large and they need space and they produce a lot of waste and impact the water quality--all reasons why they need room to be healthy. And I would not mix tropicals with goldfish.
As for feeding neon tetra, I would buy some quality tropical fish foods. Omega One, Hikari, New Life Spectrum are said to be good brands, and each of these make several types of food, and variety is the spice of life for fish as much as for humans.;-)
And, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.
