What's this barb ?
Hey all. I got two of these guys at about an inch & they've grown to about 3 1/2 inches. Anyone keep or seen these ?
I do have a fair idea of the scientific name after hours of google searches. Any & all opinions would be most appreciated as i've only seen this fish once when i bought two. I think i have a pair as one is larger with more colour being imo a male.
I am pretty sure what you have there is a Filament barb
Scientific Name Puntius filamentosus assimillis
Wow your right B !! You know your the first one to know exactly which one this was out of the sp. Barbodes or Puntius now.
I have another one for you. I bought two rasboras at the same time as the barbs...also unidentified. Now if i can dig up a pic .
This one is more difficult. I've spent hours searching so it might be interesting if a few links or search areas appear.
Blue - I did see somewhere that linking wasn't wanted. Is this right or am i hallucinating again...lol.
Ok. Here's a lousy pic (still searching for a better one). B reckons she knows before i even post a pic & i think she's right !! Not too bad for an Aussie hey ? Seriously, i've spent hours searching for images or info. on this guy as i'm sure by looks & behaviour they are a male/female pair. How lucky is that ? Also, by looks & behaviour the the barbs i bought the same day are m/f also. They were all only a coupla Aussie bucks each. Makes for fun shopping when you come home with a few different types of fish you haven't kept before & in this case not even seen.
Oh well here's the pic & thankyou B. Your a legend !
So if anyone needs ID's just go straight to B. She'll love ya for it...lol.
Ok...now that I have been found out, lol. Since I did chat with rev and double checked the colourings because the pic is quite dark. Above the black stripe is a golden stripe and a golden ochre colouring in the tail - I believe then this is a Golden striped rasbora - Rasboras daniconius
Wow !! Now that's what i call service !! You wouldn't beleive how long i've spent searching for a Scientific name or any info. for these guys. I spose it dosen't really matter what the exact name is but i can't seem to be satisfied until i know exactly what i've got. I bothered Shane from PC so bad for an ID that he said - 'send me another pic in six months & i'll have another try to positively identify him'. Annoying aren't I ?...lol.
Thanks again B !! That's really great work on both of those fish. A googling here i come for info. on the rasbora & now i have a name should be as easy as falling off a log.
For now, only those without the message boards are being allowed. Pics are also fine.:)
All good there Blue. I know it's off topic but the thread owner says he dosen't mind so i'll ask here. Say if someone was asking for info. or whatever, is a cut & paste of some info. ok , perhaps a useful paragraph or two ?
