cherry barb tails
I started with 9 red eye tetras and 9 cherry barbs over a year ago. After losing a couple of fish, the population stabilized. However, the cherry barbs keep dying for reasons unknown. I noticed another one that is about die today - it's small and has had its tail chewed off.
I'm wondering if other people have had problems with keeping red eye tetras with cherry barbs?
I have only 2 cherry barbs left, they both look healthy. Should bring some other fish into the aquarium. I have 7 of the tetras and the 3 barbs (soon to be 2)
That could be fin and tail rot, I'm not much on diagnosing disease. Have you observed any chasing or nipping by the tetra? This is possible, esp in a small tank. Many characins become nippy when they feel crowded.
Byron is right, it could easily be fin or tail rot.
For some reason though, I've never had any luck with keeping tetras. Even a school in a rather large tank they died. I noticed they were fin nipping at each other, so I added more plants, and "hidey holes" yet in about a month, all had died.
Therefore, I simply don't keep them anymore. All my other tanks are splendid though.
