Hey guys just wondering if its ok to feed my Oscars earthworms from my yard if i rinse them off cause my yard is full of them during the summer???
Not a good idea as they can be carriers of anything they pick up from the soil - E.coli being one, which is lethal to your fish and potentially you as well.
It is best to buy them from your LFS as they will pure and clean and not open to anything they might pick up in the ground.
Yes just make sure you(or people around you) do not use pest-asides. That can kill your fish.
If you really want to feed worms on the cheap you can start a compost box with some red worms and feed from it. That way you know what the worms are eating and it wont cost you any money aside form the initial investment.
thanks for the answers everyone.
I catch all the spiders I find and feed to my cichlids, my flowerhorn LOVED them
what about common house spiders, like the brownish tan ones?
I asked the keeper at my LFS, she said any spider, they will eat the spiders before the spiders can bite (even if theyre slightly venomous). So ive always fed spiders to my cichlids, never had a problem.
