I want to start breeding sward tails.I would like to breed black(I know about the cancer if they have the black on there fins),gold, green, blue(if possible) and albino(if possible).Any help is welcome:-D
My sister breeds them in a 10 gallon. They're super easy breeders. They breed in almost any condition. And no matter what color the parents are, the fry can be a variety of colors. and a female can give birth to up to 50 fry.
Make sure your tank is stocked with tiny hiding places and plants for the fry. The other fish might eat them. Here's a website to help : Breeding Swordtails
If you want specific colors, you would have to put each color in a different tank. Otherwise they will cross breed. And later keep single sex in one tank (since very young age - before they begin to spawn). Then selectively breed them in separate tanks. That way you could eventually breed out the undesired colors.
