going to a planted tank..

Ready to step up and go with live plants. I have a 55 g that is already cycled, buy with a high ph 8.2-8.4. Current stock is 4 platies, 5 zebra danios and 6 cherry barbs. What are some good beginner plants and how many would I need to cover the tank adequately. Also are there any websites that sell quality aquarium plants that anyone would recommend? Thanks.

With that kind of ph you should look at vallaseria. You could also try some Java fern, maybe even some cryptocoryne wendtii.

Agree. Vallisneria does very well in hard water, and the giant species would work along with the smaller corkscrew. Both are in our profiles--second tab from the left in the blue bar above. This plant will rapidly spread in good conditions.

I don't buy from online sites as I have good stores nearby, so can't help you with that, but some of our other members will I'm sure.

Byron.
