Tetra's dying :(
1/3 of my tetra's died outta my 5 gallon tank, they were fine this morning and when i came home one was stuck to the filter, and the other was just barely hanging on, he was nose down and was just floating around. Water temp was 78, 1 degree over there max, maybe i over fed?? Only had them for a little over a week.
is it a new tank was it cycled?
Yeah it was cycled for 3 weeks before i added them, someone told me neon's are hard to keep sometimes. I have a feeling i just over fed them and the water was to warm, i moved them into my 35 gallon with some dalmation mollies and they seem to be doing fine now.
That sounds like bad water parameters, over feeding wouldn't do that directly, just indirectly with ammonia spikes as the extra breaks down.
Also, 78 degrees wouldn't kill them.
How do you know the tank was cycled? How did you cycle it? 3 weeks is on the short side, average is 4, can be up to 8.
I'd say the bio load was too great for the size tank and it had a toxin build up. How often were you checking your ammonia and nitrites. Were you doing water changes. In 3 weeks you probably didn't have much nitrates. How many fish did you start out with.
I brought wate to te lfa after they died and they said my water was fine, could have just been bad fish I started with 6.

I brought water to the lfs*
LFS often doesn't know what they are talking about. Fine isn't an acceptable level. With ammonia and Nitrite it's either perfect ( at 0 ) or it's bad quality. I would recommend you get your own test kit. API master test kit is a good one.
I saw the tests, i think nitrites were at .02 or something, and my ammonia was at 0. Im going to get my own test kit at some point, but i dont have the money right now. As it is, my tetras are fine now and my mollies look in perfect health, i just added a peice of driftwood and some moss balls into my tank, my fish seem more active with the wood in there and play around with eachother now.
