filter bacteria question
evening all :-D
my question is,can i take either a sponge, filter wool or ceramic rings out of my tank
and send it to someone within my country, post would take a day maybe two,and
the bacteria be any good to help someones aquarium ?
and it would be wrapped in wet tissue and enclosed in a plastic bag,to keep the moisture in.
Hmmm... good question.
I think no because doesn't it need an oxygen source and isn't temperature an issue as well? I know I saw something about that on the forum a while ago but don't remember the thread. Maybe if you do a few searches within the forum threads or try google.
Most times when i google something fish related, it brings me here to the thread discussion anyway. Give it a try :)
haha thought i's be lazy and just post here
i rely on you guys as much as google lol
Yes it will work. Though I would personally mix up some water with 1-2ppm of ammonia in it and soak it in that before shipping.
Yes it will work for the same reason bottled bacteria supplement cultures work. The bacteria need oxygen and food to reproduce and colonize, but not to survive long periods. As long as the material is kept moist and extreme temperatures avoided the bacteria will survive for some time.
you guys are diamonds ya know that :-D
