Day/Night cycle
With my aquarium lighting i have a trip[le buld florescent lichting unit that has 2 white and 1 blue tube in, i never use the blue , as a secondary unit i have a 15" blue led unit which give the aquarium a stunning look when its on. Both units are on timers

The Blue comes on @ 8am until 10am and the other unit comes on @ 9.30am woth the 30min overlap
The second times on it are the blue unit comes on @10pm and the other unit turns of @ 11pm

This is giving the fish a day/night cycle that does not alter except for daylight savings in uk.

Is this a good idea and a healthy practice for the fish? They do seem to calm down and look for somewhere to settle for the night when the blue comes on and the other unit goes off. And slowly start to get more active in the morning when the blue comes on again after night time darkness

Hopefully it is good practice?

As long as you don't have plants that should be fine, though you may find that you have problems with algae. I prefer a regular light schedule for my fish, they seem to be more active when the lights stay consistent.

Iv got all live plants in there and also no problems with algae at all! Plants are growing well, well they usually do until they get destroyed by the inhabitants haha

I wouldn't have a light cycle longer than 8hrs with live plants. How long has the tank been set up? If you feel you need the blue light you can leave it, but the two white tubes should be on for no more than 8 hours.

It was first switched on 6 months ago, then had a 6 week cycling process with plants introduced after 3 weeks. Iv gone through so many plants as the fish seem to tear them apart, go straight tru the stems of most of them!
