neon tetras

hey guys! i just registered to the site and i was hoping you guys could tell me alittle more about neon tetras. i just got a 20 gallon tank with a divider because i have 2 bettas. i wanted to put some more fish in the tank so i just put 2 pleckos which are doing fine, and then i put 5 neon tetras on each side. there getting along with the bettas fine, but they all seem to be at the top of the tank all the time, and it looks like there breathing the air. is that normal? i also found one of the little guys dead on the bottom of the tank :-( i dont have and real plants in the water and the waters at around 77 degrees. help?

well hello and welcome first of all. :-D
how long have you had the tank set up for ?
have you got a test kit at all,as we would really need to know what is going on in
the water,it sounds like an ammonia problem.

hi
do you know anyone with a fish tank,if you do ask them if they would be prepared to donate
some of their filter media to you,it will be a great help.
your fish tank needs to cycle if not,and that takes time, water changes will help the fish,
and water dechlorinator is a must(you know that already)http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...m-cycle-38617/
have a read of this, for a little more help.
