API are good to keep track of your tank but definitely not a reliable source for exact numbers. I use API to track weekly. If I notice a difference in colors from week to week then I will use a better kit to try and figure out exactly what is going on. Salifert, Merk, Tunze all make very good kits but they are expensive and frequently out of stock. Seachem makes good kits but they are a bit pricey. Nice thing about Seachem is that they do a lot of tests for the money.
