RO/DI what do I have to do.
Hi all, I have a few questions on RO/DI water. Here they are:
: Do I just add tap till the pH is to my liking?
: If not how do I get the pH to where I won't it.
: Is there any reliable formula to add tap water to the Ro.
: Would I be okay just add the RO straight to the fish tank.
I plan to keep rams and my tap pH is to high so I thought I'd buy RO/DI water to get it where I want it.
1)depending on where you want your pH, yes just add to tap if you want greater than 7.0. R.O will get you a neutral pH
2)if not by r/o water you can do it naturally, which is best. peat, crushed coral, chemical buffers, etc. try not to use chemicals if you can though. what is your goal as far as water parameters. not including the 3 toxins. its a given that you want them low
3)no formula. you are going to have to experiment to get the settings you want. there is no right or wrong. just spec the water to the fish you tend to keep.
4)yes you can add tap directly to tank. if you have a planted tank, you must add nutrients back for R/o water is pretty much stripped of it though.
my goal is 6.5, and thanks for the info.
The pH is connected to the hardness, esp the carbonate (KH). Mixing RO will reduce the GH and KH of the tap water, and that will naturally allow the pH to lower. You have to be careful, though, because lowering the KH is reducing the pH buffering capability, and the pH in an aquarium will naturally lower as the water becomes more acidic due to the biology.
I've decided to give peat a shot, I did it before with one T8 bulb and it was terrible but with two T5s I should be okay.
