Eheim 2234 60G Ecco External Canister Filter w/ Media
Petsmart has an Eheim 2234 60G Ecco External Canister Filter on clearance for $50. I was thinking about buying this same canister in the near future, right now I have a Penguin 150 BioWheel power filter. So my question is should i jump on this?
That filter model is listed at $119.99 on Foster&Smith, a US firm, so it is less than half price. Unless you can better that, go for it.
Models vary, but some Eheim come with the filter pads but not any of the media, which is extra. However, if you're not setting it up now, you can get the media later; and you can use less expensive media, such as Fluval's ceramic disks, biomax, etc., which is 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of Eheim media. I have two Eheim canisters and I use Fluval media.
You really cannot better an Eheim. Other filters may operate as efficiently (or close enough), but so far Eheim has the track record for reliability and dependability.
