Withering Plants. :(
Hey guys! So, I need to ask question on how to maintain aquatic plant in a aquarium. I bought this plant in the fish shop with its root wrapped a bandage like bag with some sort of sand or soil in it where it is rooted. I asked the pet shop keeper if its okay to just leave it like that in the "bag" and he said okay. So, I followed his tips. After quite some time, my plants leaves starts to curl up and the leaves starts to produce a lump like texture. Its not like that when I bought them.
I need help guys to maintain the beauty of this aquatic plants. My guppies love them. :-(
Do you know the name of this plant?
How long has the plant been in the tank? I'd pull it, remove this bag so the roots can spread out and replant. Often times plants will look like the are dead but can come back from nothing more than a stump. Is it the only plant in the tank? What kind of lighting do you have? Are you using fertilizers? Just one plant you probably don't need to. How many fish in the tank? If it's a heavy root feeder you might consider some root tabs but first we need a little more info to be able to help you and get you pointed in the right direction.
Guppyromz, welcome to Tropical Fish Keeping forum.
I agree with previous members, to remove the wrapping/pot/wool from the roots. Another point is the plant species; some stores regrettably sell terrestrial plants as aquarium plants and these often rot quickly or eventually. If you could post a photo of the plant, it may help us too.
A third point is nutrients; plants need 17 nutrients, some of which will be readily available in a tank with fish and regular water changes, some may have to be added; are you using any fertilizer, and if so, which?
Last, light, the most important. What is the type of light (be specific) and how long is it on each day? And what is the tank size, as this relates to the light.
