Hey there, I have a question about my new cories. I got 6 of these a couple of weeks ago, and I love them. Or I would, if I could see them.
For the first day they bimbled around the tank as expected, but on the second day I thought I'd killed them. I could see one, but no matter how hard I looked the others had disappeared. I assumed that something had gone wrong and that the corpses had been eaten, as I found now't with a gravel vac. I was quite miffed for a day or two, until i saw all 6 of them milling around at the back of the tank.
I only glimpsed them for a short while, before they nipped away, but they all seemed healthy. I still haven't worked out where they all go! I now see them ever now and again, usually in groups of 2-3.
Is this normal behavior, or am i doing something wrong? Water param's are all good, and (obviously) there are plenty of hiding places. I was under the impression that Axelrodi's were quite a confident type of cory, but i very rarely see mine.
They are in with some 6 Boesman's Rainbows, 2 Angels and some Black Ruby Barbs, none of which should be messing with them, nor have I seen any evidence to indicate that this is so.
So what's up?[/list]
Toby, I don't see anything wrong with their habit as long as you said they are healthy. Seeing them in a weak state is another story however.8)
I have 6 false julii and 2 peppered cories in my 29g, I dont think ive ever seen all 8 at once :O
Ok, I may have a more serious problem on my hands here. Over the last week or so, I have only seen 4 of my new fish. Given that they are hiding and I thought I had lost all of them I still may be mistaken.
The 4 often hang out together in a little chamber formed by the plants and a bit of wood but i have never seen 6 since they went in. Not even 4 here and 2 there, or any other combo, just these 4, always in the same place...
My water params are good Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: 0ppm Nitrate: 5ppm but my Ph seems to have wandered up to 7.4-7.6ish from 6.8-7.0ish. Would this change have killed my fish. it's been about a week and a half since i tested at 7, and all the other fishes are doing a-ok.
The 4 cories i can see are all lookinh ok, just very shy. Is it likely i've lost 2? And if so, should I get some more to make up the numbers? Or is this just throwing in more fish to die?
