Gouramis and guppies?
I am almost through cycling a newly set up 55gal lightly (but soon to be more heavily) planted tank and I know that I am most likely going to have three Gourami(s) in there. They will all be the same species; the male will be golden, and females blue and opaline. I was also wanting to put some fancy guppies in there as well however what little info I can find on mixing the two seems to suggest this is a bad Idea. Has anyone made it work (perhaps if the guppies are in a very large school) or would I just be heading for an inevitable disaster. I tried to upload a picture of my tank don't know if it worked but for now thanks for any input available!
In my view, guppies and Gourami are not suited for same tanks.
Guppies prefer hard alkaline water, and the Gourami prefer softer more acidic water.
Fish will try to adapt, but one or the other would be less healthy over the long haul from living in stressful enviornment.
Stress makes fishes more suceptible to disease than many understand.IMHO
I agree with him on different water parameters, and I think I read that the moderator Byron saw some Blue Gourami eating some smaller fish in its tank. I'm not sure if guppies are too big, but it's a concern.
