- - Ich? (http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/catfish/ich-88965/)
One of my emerald green corys died the other day and when I found the body most of it was white. It didn't look like ich it looked like all the colour had been drained from his body. Is this ich or something else?
I had Ich in my aquarium about six months ago, I didn't want to use chemicals so I used the heat method and it did the job. However, I lost one of me cory's in the process, i believe this was from the stress of the heat and not the ich. Ich usually presents itself as little spots almost like sugar crystals and doesn"t drain all the color from the fish, your cory most likely lost it's color because it expired and not because of the Ich. Sorry about your fish..
Cycling with a betta
Henry's tank had a snail problem so I decided to clean out the tank not thinking about his cycled bacteria. I cleaned the gravel but not the filter. I'm assuming my tank will recycle? It hasn't done anything in 4 days. Will it cycle and if so How can I keep Henry safe? I have nowhere else to put him. PS he still has snails! Thanks:)
If the filter was left alone you won't need to worry much about a cycle since a lot of the bacteria is in the filter. There could be a mini-cycle but if only one fish, I'd doubt you'll have a problem. Just watch the parameters for a few days and you should be ok.
For snails, just before lights out, stick some blanched lettuce or spinach in the tank. If you can, several hours later, turn the lights on and it should be covered with snails. You can easily remove them. Do this several times and you will get rid of most of them. When snail numbers start getting high, do it again. Snails are often a sign of over feeding so make sure you are not doing that. Also, if you can get one, an assassin snail will help keep other snails in check.
Betta plus loaches
Is it safe for Henry if I put in 2-3 dwarf chain loaches in his 10g tank to eat my snails? Will they fin nip? I've been told no by everyone I asked but just wanted to make sure.
Henry has been back in his tank three days now and the ammonia is still 0. Does this mean I haven't started a cycle after all?
