20 Gallon questions

I'm purchasing some gravel online how much should I get?

Also I don't want to put a background on the tank because it's a huge pain to do and it never looks right.

So I remember some people spray paint the glass what color is good to chose?

I know it's preference but is black good?

For gravel, you want 2 inches deep. Black background is my best preferred background although brown may work as well.

For 20 gallon tank I would pick up a 25 lb bag of gravel. You can add more if you want it thicker though. Black looks fine, i've had a black-backed acrylic tank before and I liked it. If you know what fish you want though, pick a color that will contrast them nicely so they pop out. Right now I have a blue background on my tank and I love it. If you go into most pet stores you will see blue backgrounds on their tanks and its actually because blue is shown to make most fish stand out more. I like to have a nice bright (but still natural looking) tank and for me the blue does that the best. What kind of fish are you considering?
