Bloodworms (once or twice a week only), shrimps, earthworms, brine shrimps, daphnia, mosquito larva, cucumber, green peas, lettuce, tubifex worms, etc. The whole point is to vary the food menu as much as you can.8)

Lupin gave a pretty good list there.

Definitely try to vary the diet. This is as important as the food itself.

Also, you can try some ciclid pellets, or catfish pellets. They sink to the ground (normally) so will ensure that your bottom feeders get their fair share, but your non-bottom dwellers will be able to eat them as well - they'll just venture down to get them.

Frozen foods are cheap, easy to keep, and your fish will love 'em. Just make sure they cubes are completely thawed first, and feed what you require. :)
