What will happen with too many watts?
Ok you guys. I had a 29 gallon and I got rid of the cichlids because I could not take take of them all properly(sad). But when I sold my cichlids i did have left two, one a baby yellow lab and one that appers to be a white lab wich are in a ten since they are small with a betta. I had make a hood for my tank since I did not have one and I have it under my 29 (empty) on the stand and it is on to light my 10. I can go on forever, long story. I will post a picture to show what it looks like.

I have read that the proper lighting for the 10 is like 15 watts and the light giving off is like 40. I have seen saltwater tanks that have algae growing because of all the light trying to light the coral. Will this happen is the light is to much for the tank I have? I don't mind a little algae but I want to know if it will get out of hand.

Is the light sitting directly on top of the tank? Or is it hanging above it? This will make a difference, if it is directly on top then you could have a problem with algae building up. If it is hanging above the tank then not all of the light will make it in tank and you could be alright. It just really depends on the light itself also.

Presumably the bulbs can be changed? A lower wattage would lessen the brightness. Light is really only critical if live plants are in the tank. But without plants, the light is solely to display the fish, so it can be reduced and be off more than it is on. Algae will appear under any light, to varying degrees; without plants, this is not bad as the algae performs a similar task in using nutrients and producing oxygen.

Ok thanks, so no big diffrence will be made. There is two live plants, a water lili that was bought as a bulb and growning and a dwarf onion plant. I do need the plant and I like the light because it makes the gravel gems pop out and look better.
