new bumblebee goby tank!
Hello! About a month ago I decided I wanted a fish tank, but I also wanted to do it right. So after a LOT of reading, I began fishless cycling my tank and continuing to research in the meantime. Before I knew it my tank was cycled. It's 5.5 gallon. I wish I had the space to start with a bigger tank, but I think I'm up for the challenge. I added these little guys last Saturday. After giving them some time to rest and adjust, the next day I fed them the brine shrimp I had been growing out and they loved it. There must have been hundreds of shrimp, but I watched them devour almost every single one.
My first question is, how long can the gobies safely go between feedings (until the next batch of shrimp is ready)? and how long should they have to go in order to stay at their healthiest? I'm determined to continue growing live food for these guys, but unfortunately I don't have a consistently warm place to grow the brine shrimp, so they're maturing pretty slowly. They won't touch flakes (of course), but I might try some sort of frozen food between live food feedings if I need to.
My second question concerns the water conditions. They were being kept as freshwater at my LFS, and my tank cycled as freshwater as well. I've read that it's dangerous to take a tank from freshwater to straight brackish in one PWC, but how quickly can I do it? I want to get the SG up to about 0.005~0.008. Also, the gobies came with some mild fin rot (I won't be shopping at that store again..) and I've already added about 2.5 tbsp of marine salt and some jungle start right (dechlorinator which is supposed to have aloe in it). Is there anything else I can do to make them more comfortable and/or help them heal?
Last but not least, what do you think of the tank? :-D
I'll be getting some plants in it soon (ones that are supposed to tolerate brackish water well) and probably redecorating a little. I want to get some brown or whitish coarse sand eventually but I'm not in the mood to potentially mess up the cycle by doing it too soon. I know I've asked a lot of questions. thanks ahead of time!
Added plants to my tank! I hope the cloudiness is gone by tomorrow.
