Does anyone know how to make Gel Foods?
Hey there does anyone know how to make gel foods?
I've heard and seen many people make gel foods.
I've no idea on how to make them and is hoping if anyone does know how.
It would be great to see some replies.
For goldfish? I use Mazuri gel food. It comes as a powder and you make it up. It's the best commercially made food for goldfish. This forum has some good gel food recipes.
You really only need to make gel food if you have fancies. Most gel foods lack the wheat bindings that are found in other pellet and flake food; this wheat can cause buoyancy issues in many of the fancies. Commons, comets, and shubunkins can easily survive on New Life Spectrum pellets or other high-end feeds because they rarely suffer from the same issues. If you're looking for something to treat commons with, I would try feeding freeze-dried krill or orange slices instead. It's a cheaper option.
Not sure about goldies, but I make my food as follows-
4 cups raw leafy greens (like spinach)
1/2 cup protein (like shrimp or lean freshwater fish)
2 cloves garlic
Blend well in food processor until finely chopped.
If you have the means (a coffee grinder), you can grind a human multivitamin into powder and add a little (not more than 1/2 a caplet to the batch) at this time, and blend.
Mix 3 packets gelatin with 1/3 cup extremely hot water.
Add mixture to food proccessor and blend well.
Pour into molds, or on wax paper to cut. Refrigerate or freeze until firm.
I keep mine frozen until ready to use... Just leave it on the counter right before you use it so it can thaw.
