Marina Black Strip Thermometer

Anyone ever used the Marina thermometer? The black strip that has fahrenheit and celcius on it that you attach to the outside of the tank? Mine's giving me trouble I think. It's reading 80 - 82 degrees F so I went to go adjust my heater and when I touched the water it was cold (not freezing but you know, cold). It's actually pretty hot in my room as I have the hottest room in the house and it feels more like 80 degrees in here than in the tank! I thought I would save money because it was only 99 cents at the LFS but I don't think it's reading the temp right :-?

That kind of thermometer is notoriously inaccurate.
For $3 or so you can get a decent in-tank thermometer that will do a much better job.

I had the same trouble with stick-on thermometers. Now I use a digital thermometer plus a floating one. They are at Petsmart for around $4 (I think). Much more accurate. It doesn't always pay to be cheap.

I'm not a fan of the strips. I put one on each end of my hospital tank just to see whether they would read the same and they were diff. by 5-10 degrees (forget which).

A few degrees here and there can make a big difference to the fish so I say scrap them.
