Anyone have some duckweed they want to part with?
Duckweed will grow like crazy and can be a pain to get rid of. I'd steer away of this if it is for an aquarium.
It might help to post where you are located. Someone close by might have some, as shipping plants in freezing weather can be troublesome.
It is true duckweed can become very much a weed, but I now have it in all my tanks but one and I just scoop some out every water change. It is a tasty food for vegetarian fish, highly nutritious.
Carolina Biological sells it for pretty cheap. You could also check aquabid. Depending on your local temps, you might want to hold off on ordering it until it warms again.
I have duckweed in my betta tanks. Whenever it starts to overgrow I just scoop some off and put it in the goldfish tank. They love to eat it, so it's never taken hold in that tank. It makes a great cover and nutrient sink.
I'm also wanting some duckweed. My sponge filter should be here by next weekend so ready to get some surface plants :) Anyone in AZ care to part with some?
I could send you both some if you'd be willing to pay for shipping plus a couple extra dollars. Not entirely sure how it'd do shipping since it is getting colder but if you want to pay for faster shipping that'd be fine.
Thanks, but NY to AZ shipping in the winter makes me nervous. I found a local forum and someone said they could part with a 3"x3" chunk to get me started. How fast will this stuff really grow. When weather warms up (or as I find it local) I would love to mix in some Salvenia and Frogbit with it :)
It grows FAST especially if you don't have a strong current across the top or there's other floating plants like watersprite for it to hide in. I have Salvenia as well which doesn't seem to grow as fast and I like the look of better.
