Sad story for poor fishies from a very neglectful owner
Last night my work got a call about several cold water and tropical fish left in a supermarket. A colleague of mine who has a large tank and was only around the corner went down herself, collected them, and took them home.
POOR THINGS! They had been in the bags at least 2 hours possibly a lot longer, and were in about 1 inch of water, she got 3 dead, and 5 survived.
A goldfish and an oranda arrived, both rather large, and their poos are solid algae must have not been fed for a while, was a large rhino pleco, and 2 5inch opaline gouramis also. One of the gouramis doesn't look great, and the oranda got instantly attacked by one of her existing loaches... (I have taken the loach while the oranda recovers)
Very bad! How cold anyone do this, mix tropical and coldwater intentionally, and leave them for hours in the freezing cold in a supermarket trolley!
Before anyone mentions, I know she has got coldwater and tropical mixed for now, she has no quarantine tank setup as has only just moved, It was a needs must basis and she needed to get them into oxygenated water straight away, and the goldfish will be moved on as soon as a space opens in a large tank or pond.
Thankyou all for looking. Please send your wishes for the fishes to get better!
How awful :( Your friend is a kind soul for taking care of them. I hope the survivors make it.
That's horrible. I would have taken them in no doubt about it. Not to be a thread jacker or anything but just tonight my fiancee and I were shopping at Wal-Mart and thought we'd drop in the fish dept. We all know that they take little to no care of their fish at all but this one is bad. Some of the Betta bowls only had maybe an inch of water. Not even enough for the Bettas fins to leave the bottom of the bowl. That's just ridiculous in my eyes.
Poor fish I hope they make it. And I don't even want to get started on Walmart I had to stop going in the fish section because at one time I had about 40 bettas that I had saved from there that were close to death and I just could not make myself leave them there. : [
