One thing not in the profile concerns the aggressiveness of the males. In the right environment, this species is a prolific spawner. As with all gourami that build bubblenests, the male guards the nest (eggs). They are very territorial. I have had to move my present group of 5 through 3 different tanks due to the non-stop attacks by the males on other fish.

I didn't have this, or didn't notice it anyway, when I had this fish previously (different fish) in a larger (70g) tank that was very thickly planted. I assume the thick plants [the tank was literally choked with Wisteria, there was no open swimming space at all] kept them confined to smaller spaces. The gourami spawned frequently and fry survived among the plants. Chocolate Gourami also spawned in this setup and fry survived. I had dwarf loaches on the substrate that no one seemed to mind, and a large group of Lambchop Rasbora that also loved the plant cover.

Byron.
