Growth on my El Nino Ferns
 

Hi, I was hoping I could get some help identifying and treating a growth that is showing up on my El Nino Ferms. I can't get a picture because I havn't let them get large enough to get a clear shot.

The growth starts as a small green nodule towards the tip of the leaves. The nodule grows to about 1cm and then thin black tendrils drop out from it.

It only seems to grow on the ferns, and seems to be leaving the amazon swords that are planted around them alone. So far I've just been trimming the leaves and cutting off the tips with the growths on them, but they keep coming back.

I am guessing what you have is actually a Java Fern and if I am not mistaken those are baby plants, the black things you are talking about are the roots. If you could post a pic I could be more sure.

I think it is Java Fern but I can not see the tips or the growth but I am 99% sure the growth are baby plants.

No its an Acrostichum heteroclitum [El Nino Fern or Bolbitis heteroclita] not sure what tie black growths are never had a fern of any kind but might be the baby shots as calmwaters has suggested.

Thanks for all the replies. I suppose I should just trim off the tips where the new plants srpout to keep them from taking over.

Yes or you could let them grow a bit and share them with your fellow fish loveing friends on here, or sell them. LOL
